GINNY

Alex called me his wife, and to another person. I have no idea why that had such an impact hearing it, but it did. It still does. Him saying it aloud makes it all the more real.

Should I call him my husband now? I mean, technically, he is, since we did say “I do” to each other, and I agree with him that we shouldn’t need a license or a judge or priest or any other type of officiant to get married. The diamond I’m sporting is a clear indicator that I’m taken.

I twirl the ring on my finger as I stretch out on the bed and lean against the wall. I haven’t taken it off since he slipped it on during our five-second ceremony. Yes, I know it’s not legal since we didn’t have any witnesses and haven’t filed a license or anything like that. That doesn’t make it any less real.

Which means tonight, we’ll be sleeping in the same bed together as a legit married couple. My heart does a little jig at the thought of what that means. If we bang tonight—and judging by the way he was eyeing me like a hungry animal about to devour his prey when I walked out of the bathroom earlier, we most definitely will—would that make it more officially official?

That thought keeps me company as I hear the water shut off. I shoot off the bed, suddenly nervous and anxious and worried and even a bit scared. Is this how brides feel on their wedding night? Maybe virgins, or couples who’ve never been with each other before, but neither applies to our current situation.

I’m still pacing around the small room when Alex steps out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel wrapped low around his narrow waist, leaving the rest of his gorgeously tanned body exposed for me to admire. And I do, dear God, how I do.

“Forgot to grab clean clothes,” he explains and opens his bag, ruffling through it. When he catches me ogling, he does a few double takes before keeping his attention on the bag. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Like what?” I clear my throat and try my hardest to look away, but it’s impossible. I now understand what Maisie meant when she told me she thought Travis was like a tractor beam of hotmosis when she first saw him.

Hello, hotmosis.

Alex chuckles and shakes his head. “Like you’ve never seen me naked before.”

“You’re not naked,” I point out feebly. What a moronic statement. I go all in and insert my other foot. “You still have a towel on.”

He drops it and steps away from the bag on the bed and slowly twirls, his arms out wide. “Now I am. Happy?”

“Ecstatic.” I lick my lips and inch toward him, but stop when he brings up his hands.

“As much as I want to consummate this marriage—and I really want to spend a lot of time and effort consummating every inch of my wife, trust you me—we need to eat something first.
